Introducing the 350 ChallengeWhile the number "350" may not be immediately associated with our planet’s future, that is changing. Top scientists conclude that to keep the planet relatively safe, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere needs to be reduced to 350 parts per million (ppm). Brighter Planet is kicking off the 350 Challenge to help jumpstart leading environmentalist and Brighter Planet Advisory Board member Bill McKibben's international awareness campaign. For the first 350 people to download this badge on their website or blog, we will donate 350 lbs. of carbon emissions for each blogger, the equivalent of going two full weeks without your car!

New product: Brighter ProductionsNobody, writer-director Rob Perez's (40 Days and 40 Nights) independent comedy being shot in Minneapolis, will be carbon-neutral, thanks to their use of Brighter Productions. The film, produced by Damien Saccani and Josh Hartnett, has over 105 cast and crew which leaves a sizable carbon footprint through air travel, ground transportation, generators, lighting, heating, air-conditioning, and shipping. Nobody will be somebody making a difference by choosing to invest in clean energy. —the team at Brighter Planet |
This month's conservation tip: use rainwater for your garden. Whether you design a complete rainwater catchment system, build a rain barrel, or just stick a couple buckets under your downspouts, rain is a great way to water your garden. Rain water is actually quite clean, because it doesn’t have any of the dissolved salts or pollutants that are often found in groundwater or surface water. Nor does it contain the chlorine used to treat municipal water supplies. Best of all, it’s free! |
